Privacy Policy
What we collect, what we do not, and who else sees anything.
The short version. We do not have accounts, we do not have a mailing list, and we do not sell anything, so there is very little to collect. Google Analytics measures traffic. If you email us we keep the email so we can reply. If you click through to Amazon, Amazon does its own thing under its own policy.
Who we are
Gear & Grade is operated by Type 5 Marketing LLC. For anything in this policy, contact info@gearandgrade.com.
What we collect
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people find useful. It collects the usual: pages viewed, roughly how long for, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, and how you arrived. IP addresses are anonymized by Google Analytics 4 by default. We also record when someone clicks a buy button, which tells us which recommendations people act on — it records the page and the product, not who you are.
We cannot identify you from any of this and we do not try to. If you would rather not be counted, Google publishes a browser opt-out add-on, and most content blockers stop the script from loading at all.
If you contact us
The contact form collects your name, email address, chosen topic and message, and sends them to our inbox by email. We use them to reply to you and for nothing else. We do not add you to any list — there is no list. Messages are kept as long as they might reasonably need a follow-up and are deleted after that.
The form also records the moment the page loaded and includes a hidden field that real people never fill in. Both exist solely to reject automated spam and neither is stored.
What we do not collect
- No accounts, logins or passwords — there is nothing to log into.
- No payment details. We never handle a transaction; purchases happen on the retailer’s site.
- No newsletter signups. We do not have a newsletter.
- No advertising cookies, retargeting pixels or third-party ad networks.
- We never sell, rent or share personal data. There is no scenario in which we would.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish one visit from another. That is the only category of cookie this site is responsible for. Blocking or deleting them in your browser settings will not break anything here — nothing on this site depends on remembering you.
Third parties
- Google Analytics— traffic measurement, under Google’s own privacy policy.
- Vercel— hosting. Their servers process standard request logs, including IP addresses, to serve pages and mitigate abuse.
- Amazon— when you click a buy link you leave this site and land on Amazon, which applies its own privacy policy and cookies. Amazon sets a cookie identifying us as the referring site so that a qualifying purchase is credited to us. See how we make money.
- Microsoft— contact form messages are delivered through Microsoft’s email service.
We have no other third-party scripts on this site.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to how it is used. In practice, the only personal data we are likely to hold is an email you sent us. Write to info@gearandgrade.comand we will action it — there is no form and no process to navigate.
Residents of California, and of jurisdictions covered by the GDPR, have specific statutory rights along these lines. We do not sell personal information as those laws define it, and we never have.
Children
This site is written for adults buying bicycles and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date below changes with it. Material changes will be described on the page rather than slipped in.
